The Town of Merrimac uses a "One-pass" garbage and recycling collection. Each resident has one (1) 95-gallon garbage (black lid) and one (1) 95 gallon recycle (yellow lid) toter/container. Toters are the property of Peterson Sanitation Inc and are to remain at the address they are delivered to. Additional or replacement containers are the responsibility of the property owner. Garbage or recycling placed outside of the containers will not be picked up.
Garbage will be picked up weekly on MONDAY* . Recycles will be picked up on an every other week basis, on MONDAY*
All “toters” will be required to be placed “curbside.”
PLEASE PLACE TRASH AND RECYCLE BIN CURBSIDE BY 6:00 A.M.
*Residential collection may be delayed due to the following holidays:
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
If the holiday falls on a Monday-Friday, collection will be delayed ONE DAY following the holiday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, collection will not be affected.

ACCEPTABLE GLASS: Soda, beer, wine and liquor bottles, juice and food containers, catsup bottles. ALL COLORS, RINSE CLEAN, NO LIDS, UNBROKEN, LABELS OK. Not acceptable: mirrors, ceramic cups, and plates, clay flower pots, crystal light bulbs, window glass, heat resistant ovenware, drinking glasses.
PLASTIC CONTAINERS: ALL plastic containers must have the recycle symbol, PLASTICS 1-7. NO STYROFOAM. Items that can be tied together (like milk cartons) may be placed next to the bin. RINSE, NO CAPS OR LIDS.
NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES: Bundled, tied. Keep dry. Maybe place next to recycle bin.
TIN CANS: NO LIDS, RINSE CLEAN. EMPTIED AEROSOL CANS ARE RECYCLABLE.
ALUMINUM: ALUMINUM CANS; MAKE SURE FOILS IS ALUMINUM. RINSE.
OTHERS: Corrugated cardboard and boxboard (cereal, pop, etc., must be FLATTENED, BUNDLED AND TIED IN 3X4 SHEETS OR SMALLER); **NO COATED WAXED CARDBOARD**.
NO BATTERIES & WASTE OIL
ONLY RECYCLE ITEMS ARE TO BE PLACED IN THE CONTAINER.
